No Child Left Behind, the federal mandate that was implemented by the Bush administration five years ago, is up for review. After participating in a roundtable discussion sponsored by Congressman Scott and reviewing the recent TIME magazine article regarding No Child Left Behind, it is difficult to understand how we can continue to hold educators, administrators, and schools accountable, but fail to hold parents and students to the same level of accountability regarding academic achievement. The four pillars of No Child Left Behind address stronger accountability for results, more freedom for states and communities, proven education methods, and more choices for parents. Tax Rebates, Economic Stimulus and You |

The current buzz about the upcoming stimulus plan and the state of the
US economy has a lot of people talking. When the Bush administration
and Congress alerted the public that families and individuals would be
getting checks ranging from $600 to $1,800, people were excited. And,
I have to admit; I was even starting to consider what I was going to do
with my piece of the pie. So, apart from all the independently wealthy
folks out there who aren’t thinking twice about this check, let me give
you a couple of things to consider.
The Goal Is Spending
The government is actually sending these checks out with the hopes that
you, the normal consumer will go out and spend this money- on a flat
screen TV, on a new pair of tires you’ve needed or any other shiny,
glittery, thing that catches your eye. Now, that’s all fine and
dandy, but if you’re going to spend the money, you might as well get
the best bang for your buck (pun intended). If you are currently in
the market to purchase a big-ticket item, then wait for the season when
checks will be disbursed. Many stores understand that a lot of cash
will suddenly be infused into the economy and they will be competing to
get your dollars. So let them fight over you and use this time to
negotiate on price.

Happy New Year! I anticipate this year, you are standing in the state of expectation working the gift that God has given to you. This is the last article relating to the series, The Gift that Keeps on Giving. We started the process by identifying the gift that we believed the Lord gave us as a means to financial stability. Then we shared the vision with people we trusted in anticipation that they would align with our call and support us in any way possible. Finally, it was critical that we began to work on the practical aspects of a new business. That would include establishing a business, opening a bank account, finding a mentor, and just moving forward with a plan of action.
Now it’s weeks later and you may have a very serious concern. How do you get the word out that you are now an entrepreneur? People can’t take advantage of your services or purchase your products unless they know you are in business. So here are some practical ways to get started marketing and promoting your business. |

When Jamal knocked on Steiner's office doorway, the advisor looked up and paused as if being graced by the presence of a ghost. "I think you've got a little explaining to do." Stunned by the sight of Steiner smoking a pipe and blowing smoke out of an open window, Jamal stood there expecting him to go on a rant.
"I saw the news," Steiner started off slow as he tapped the tobacco out of his pipe. He wasted no time stepping it up into high gear, shouting about everything from the static he caught from the Provost regarding the supposed sexual harassment issue with Leslie Smith to being bum rushed by detectives regarding the shooting Jamal witnessed. After unintentionally breaking the pipe on the desk, he grew quiet. "You go from my top intern to being Public Enemy Number One. So far you're battin' a f***** thousand for getting yourself on the shortlist outta here, son."
When Jamal started to laugh, Steiner's face stretched, puzzled by what looked like mean-spirited defiance. By the time Jamal finished explaining the carnival of circumstances he had been through since dissing Leslie Smith and stumbling into the shooting fiasco and the whole police tie-in, it didn't take much for Steiner to understand the comedy of errors that had occurred. He closed the window and glanced at Jamal. "Out of all the excuses I've ever heard, that is the craziest. No offense but even the media can't make up s*** that good."
