Thank you so much for visiting Black Money Matters. Since our
inception on September 15, 2005, we have received numerous emails and
phone calls in support of our efforts here. We are striving to
become a well of information for the Black community. We ask you
to feel free to contact us with financial questions, and other
informative sources of information that will benefit the
community. Remember, this site belongs to all of us, so please
feel free to share.
We are by no means the end-all authority or the final word when it
comes to personal finances, but we believe that our knowledge can be
shared in such a way to help avoid some pitfalls and mistakes that some
of us have already gone through. We understand that your time is
valuable and that the internet is full of websites that can educate you.
Thank you for choosing to visit us today! |

OK, ok, maybe I am a little optimistic about the power of Black money. I guess when you were raised, as I was, watching your father work two jobs for 8 years so that his kids could receive a good education provided by Brooklyn's finest public school teachers (Shout out to P.S. 139 and P.S. 188!), you tend to want to dream a little bit. |

Last week I wrote an article called Black Phenomenon and in it, I began to discuss the similarities between the Jewish and Black communities. While both have been through enormous struggles and have had attempts to see their respective peoples suffer great anguish. However, as I stated, there has remained a great difference between the two groups after the smoke has cleared. Jewish people have managed to establish greater level of wealth than any other group. In the book Jewish Phenomenon, the author goes to great lengths to explain why Jews have such great resiliency. |

As you walk around the corner you see the sign: (fill in the blank) University Bookstore. It’s filled with freshmans, sophomores, juniors and seniors, all searching for the books that match their professors’ names. The store is usually a two-color pattern: purple and white, green and gold, take your pick. These colors represent the fine University you’ve been pulling out student loans to attend. The colors also represent the University that, in today’s hard economy, is struggling to pay quality teachers and retain top notch sports teams. What does this mean for you, the student? This means that as much as possible you will assist the University in dealing with its financial hardships, with or without your knowledge. I’ll give you an example. I walked in my bookstore looking for a mechanical pencil. Ignoring the price tag (that was a bad idea) I just grabbed the pencil and went to pay. ‘This can’t be more than a few dollars,’ was my thinking. |

How do you like the new look of the website? Over the past several days some of you may have been at the site in the morning and noticed that the site looked different. We have been working with different focus groups asking them how they liked different styles of web design. We listened to our members and visitors and kind of came to a mix between two styles. We think it adds a little pizazz as well as allow us to stay functional. With the use of this new design we should be able to handle a larger amount of traffic on the site without it causing any server problems. However, we still have some people telling us some aspects they don't like about the site. If you still have some constructive criticism for the new design, please let us know. We can't say that it will be acted on, but at least you would've had a chance to voice your opinion. |
